Dan has experience on stage and on camera, with a special focus on Shakespeare.  Originally from Needham, MA, Dan moved to Chicago for college and in nearly years in that city he engaged in a variety of pursuits in the arts and other fields.  He worked on tour and charter boats on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan almost from his arrival, serving as captain after earning his license in 1996.  For several years he studied toward a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago.  While neglecting his academic career, he worked as a technician in a number of Chicago theaters, and began acting professionally in the late ‘90s.  The enticements of full-time employment brought him back to the University, where he served as the technical director and then production manager of University Theater, the popular and renowned student-run theater, as well as lecturer in Theater and Performance Studies and Humanities.  Dan left that job to pursue further actor training and in 2009 he received his MFA from the Shakespeare Theatre’s Academy for Classical Acting at the George Washington University. He then returned to Chicago to continue his career. In 2017 the family relocated to Oxford, MS, where Dan is Assistant Professor of Acting in the Department of Theatre and Film at the University of Mississippi. He has continued to act and is now branching out into filmmaking. Look for his short “Michael’s Air B&B” coming to festivals and streaming soon.
